Churchill insurance is a U.K. based company founded in 1989 and headquartered in Bromley, England. Founded 32 years ago by Martin Long, yes, the same Martin Long that founded the famous British insurance company, Direct Line.
Since February 2012, Churchill has been a part of the Direct Line Group. Churchill offers a range of general insurance products underwritten by United Kingdom Insurance, such as car, home, travel, and pet insurance, along with breakdown cover.
How much does purchasing car insurance from Churchill cost?
We can say for sure Churchill is among insurers with the cheapest rates, but we can’t give a number because your insurance expenses vary based on these factors:
- Age. Drivers under 25 pay a higher premium, and their rates slowly drop as they age.
- Gender. Statistics show that young female drivers tend to get fewer accidents, so they pay a few dollars less.

Except for the usual coverages like third party, fire & theft, third party only, and fully comprehensive, Churchill offers some other coverages that it’d be good to know if you consider this company.
- Breakdown cover
Churchill offers four different breakdown cover levels:
- Homecall Service
- Homecall and Rescue Service
- Advanced Rescue Service
- Guaranteed hire car plus
In the last level, Churchill will provide you with a hire car if your car is damaged because you’ve been in an accident or fire or if your vehicle has not been stolen and not recovered after afterward.
- No-claims discount protection
At least, you have to have four years of no-claim discount and not more than one at-fault claim in your driving record the past three years for all drivers combined with being eligible for this cover.
- Legal assistance
Churchill will pay up to £100,000 of legal costs if you get into a legal dispute after an accident; however, the chance that your claim will succeed must be higher than 50%.

However, if you read customer reviews, you can see some common customer complaints highlighted that you have to check out before making a wise purchase.
Churchill, like every other insurance company, is weak in some areas. For example, many brands in the U.K. offer coverage for lost or accidentally damaged keys.
Still, unfortunately, Churchill’s key cover is only for when your key’s been stolen, and the person who has your keys knows where your car is kept.
On the flip side, Churchill offers its policyholders some features that cannot be found elsewhere. For instance, Churchill’s basic courtesy car cover only gives you a small car in case your own vehicle is off being repaired after a covered incident your car is being repaired by one of the Churchill’s approved repairer shops.
Churchill also has a Hire Car Plus for drivers with a larger vehicle and would like to have a comparable courtesy car while theirs is being repaired in an approved repair shop. Hire Car Plus also gives you a courtesy car if yours is stolen or written off (totaled).
